The IFS West Coast Listserv is a professional email-based community for Internal Family Systems practitioners who want to stay connected around referrals, trainings, consultation opportunities, events, and resources related to IFS practice.
For many years, this listserv has served as a practical way for practitioners to support one another across the region. As the group has grown, we are clarifying its purpose and guidelines so it can remain useful, respectful, and clinically grounded for the whole community.
This listserv is intended to function as a professional resource, not a discussion forum. Posts should serve the practical needs of IFS practitioners and remain connected to the purpose of the group. Appropriate posts may include referral requests, IFS-related trainings or events, consultation opportunities, practice resources, and clinically relevant questions.
To protect the usefulness of the listserv, the moderators review all posts before they go live for fit with the group’s purpose and agreements. We use moderation tools to sort routine posts quickly and flag anything that needs a closer look, and a person makes every decision on flagged posts. Posts that move into political advocacy, public debate, critique of group rules, or high-conflict process discussion may be held, redirected, or declined.
If a post or member crosses a group agreement, we start with a private note, not removal. Repeated issues may lead to removal from the group. Anyone who was removed and is willing to honor the agreements going forward is welcome to request to rejoin.
Our hope is that this listserv remains a clear, generous, and trustworthy space where IFS practitioners can find connection, share useful resources, and support the work of healing in their communities.
This listserv is for individual practitioners who are actively connected to Internal Family Systems and want to use the group as a practical professional resource.
Members may include therapists, coaches, spiritual directors, consultants, educators, or other helping professionals who have completed IFS Level 1 training or have a clearly established background in IFS-informed work. Members practice on the West Coast or serve West Coast clients virtually.
The listserv is especially intended for practitioners who want to:
Share or request IFS-related referrals
Learn about IFS trainings, events, workshops, or consultation opportunities
Connect with other IFS-informed professionals in the region
Share resources that support IFS practice
Participate in a clear, respectful, professionally grounded email community
Membership is for named individuals, not organizations, practices, or generic business accounts. Each member is responsible for their own participation and is expected to understand and honor the group’s posting guidelines.
This listserv may not be the right fit for those primarily looking for a discussion forum, political advocacy space, general networking group, or public venue for debating the direction or purpose of IFS.
This listserv is intended for posts that are directly useful to IFS practitioners and clearly connected to the purpose of the group.
Appropriate posts may include referral requests, IFS-related trainings or events, consultation opportunities, practice resources, study groups, job openings for IFS-trained clinicians, invitations to teach or present (such as CE opportunities), office space or professional logistics relevant to practitioners, and clinically relevant questions connected to IFS practice.
A helpful post usually has a clear purpose: it is asking for support, offering a relevant resource, sharing an opportunity, or helping practitioners stay connected around the work of IFS.
To protect the usefulness of the listserv, some kinds of posts are outside the scope of the group.
Posts may be held, redirected, or declined if they move into political advocacy, ideological debate, public critique of moderation decisions, broad social commentary, high-conflict group process, or discussion about the rules or direction of the listserv itself.
Shared resources may engage cultural or social questions. The post introducing them should leave room for members who see those issues differently.
The listserv is also not intended for generic marketing, repeated self-promotion, institutional accounts posting without individual accountability, or content that is not clearly connected to IFS practice.
Members are welcome to contact the moderators privately with questions, concerns, or clarification about the group guidelines.
New to the list and wondering what a post looks like? Here are the kinds of posts members share most, with short examples based on real posts (details changed). There's no set format, and it doesn't need to be perfect. If you're unsure, browse past posts if you can, or just write to us at ifswestcoast.moderation@gmail.com.
Referral requests
These are the most common posts, about one every day or two. The practical details help most: location, telehealth or in person, insurance or fee, and a brief sense of what your client needs. Please leave out identifying information and long backstories.
Subject: ISO: IFS therapist, CA telehealth, Blue Shield PPO
Hi all, I'm looking for an IFS therapist for an adult client in California who is working with anxiety and some perfectionism. Telehealth is fine. If you take Blue Shield PPO and have room, please reply to me directly. Thank you!
Subject: ISO: IFIO couples therapist, Sacramento area or telehealth
Hi everyone, I'm hoping to find an IFIO-trained therapist, or a couples therapist who works with an IFS lens, for a couple who wants to focus on communication. In person near Sacramento would be ideal, and telehealth is fine too. Private pay. Thanks so much.
When you have enough names, a short reply to the list ("All set, thank you all!") lets colleagues know.
Openings in your practice
Requests far outnumber openings, so these are always appreciated. Share who you work with, where and how you see clients, your fee or insurance, and your website address.
Subject: CA telehealth openings: IFS and EMDR therapist
Hi everyone, I have a few openings for adults in California by telehealth. I'm Level 1 IFS trained and work mostly with trauma, life transitions and burnout. Private pay for now, with two sliding-scale spots. More about me at [your website]. Thanks for keeping me in mind.
Subject: Introduction + in-person openings in [city]
Hi all, I'm fairly new to the list and wanted to say hello. I've just started seeing clients in person in [city], and I also offer telehealth across [state]. I work with individuals and couples and take a few insurance plans. Details are on my website: [your website].
IFS trainings, CE, and consultation or peer groups
Share what it is, who it's for, when and where, the cost, any CE, and where to learn more.
Subject: 1 opening in a monthly IFS consultation group
Hello colleagues, I have one spot in an online consultation group for clinicians with Level 1 training or more. We meet one Friday morning a month for five months, with time for cases, questions, and our own parts. Dates and the fee for the series are at [link], or just reply with questions.
Subject: Guided practice group for Level 1 graduates, starting in [month]
Hi wonderful colleagues, we're offering an eight-week online practice group for Level 1 graduates, with practice in triads and gentle feedback. There are two weekday options. Details and registration: [link]. Please feel free to pass it along.
Groups and retreats for clients
Members often share groups and retreats their clients might enjoy. Share who it's for, the format, dates, cost, and how to sign up.
Subject: IFS support group for neurodivergent adults, starting in [month]
Hi community, I'm starting a small IFS-informed group for neurodivergent adults who want support in their relationships. Eight weekly sessions, virtual, sliding scale. Interest list: [link]. Thank you for sharing it with anyone who might be a good fit.
Subject: Weekend IFS retreat in the redwoods, [dates]
Dear colleagues, we're holding a weekend retreat for anyone curious about getting to know their parts. No IFS experience is needed, and there are overnight and commuter options. Details: [link].
Helpful articles, apps, and free resources
A sentence or two on why you found it useful goes a long way.
Subject: Article on trauma and treatment planning
Dear colleagues, I wanted to share a recently published journal article that may be useful for anyone thinking about how trauma shows up in diagnosis and treatment planning. Link: [link].
Subject: Notes from using a between-session app with IFS clients
Hi all, I've been trying a between-session app with some of my IFS clients over the past few months and wanted to share what I've noticed, both what has helped and what I'm still unsure about. [A few lines, then the link.]
Introducing yourself
You're welcome to say hello to the group with a short note about who you are and how you work.

Hi everyone, I'm happy to be here. I'm an IFS-trained therapist in [city], seeing adults in person and by telehealth across [state]. Clinical questions for colleagues (for example, "Does anyone know of good IFS books or websites in [language]?"), job openings for IFS-trained clinicians, and invitations to teach or present.
A few quick tips
Reply privately to referral requests. Write to the person who posted, not the whole list.
Keep client details non-identifying. Location, format, payment, and a brief sense of what your client needs are plenty.
Include your website when you share an opening or an offering, so colleagues can learn more.
A clear subject line helps. Many members start referral requests with "ISO" (in search of) plus the location.
Put a few sentences in the email itself when you attach a flyer: what it is, when, and who it's for. Some members can't open attachments.
One post and one reminder is a good rhythm for an offering. The limit is once a week and twice a month, plus one reminder in the week before it starts (see Membership Expectations). Quick corrections, like a fixed date or link, don't count.
Keep the post about the work. Offerings and resources can engage cultural or social questions. Please introduce them in a way that leaves room for colleagues who see things differently, and skip political advocacy or debate.
Questions about moderation go privately to ifswestcoast.moderation@gmail.com.
Thank you for helping keep this a generous, useful place for all of us.
1. Keep posts IFS-specific and professionally relevant.
Posts should support referrals, trainings, events, resources, consultation, or practitioner connection related to IFS.
2. Protect confidentiality.
A brief sense of what your client needs is helpful. Please leave out identifying information and long backstories.
3. Communicate with respect.
Assume goodwill, avoid personal attacks, and engage as colleagues.
4. Avoid political advocacy and public debate.
The listserv is not a forum for ideological debate, political organizing, or broad social commentary.
5. Do not use the listserv to debate moderation decisions.
Questions or concerns about guidelines, moderation, or group direction should be sent privately to the moderators.
6. Post as an individual member.
Membership is tied to a named individual, not a practice, business, organization, or shared account.
7. Limit excessive self-promotion.
Relevant IFS trainings, events, groups, and resources are welcome. Please post each event or offering no more than once a week and twice a month, plus one reminder in the week before it starts. Repeated or unrelated promotion may be held or declined.
8. Respect moderator decisions.
Moderators may approve, hold, redirect, or decline posts to protect the usefulness of the group.
